Explore the surrounding areas
Vista da Montanha is situated in one of the prettiest areas of the Algarve. Many beautiful beaches just a short drive away. Bustling towns such as Carvoeiro, Almancil de Pera, Silves, Portimao, Alvor and Ferragudo are all worth visiting.
There are lots of local tours and further afield a day trip to Lisbon or Seville. These can all be booked at Reception. The staff will be able to advise you. Feeder coaches collect from the Quinta.
The local town of Silves is spectacular with its old castle sitting above the town, watching over the Arade River which leads down to Portimao.
Local fairs are held along the Algarve daily. Buy local delicacies and gifts to take home. Make sure you pick up a copy of Portugal News at the supermarket for daily listings of where to go. If you are unlucky enough to have a wet day, then spend it at Zoomarine or Algarve Shopping in Guia. There is ample parking at both.
There are lots of maps and ideas of where to go in Reception. Also a large selection of books, DVDs etc to borrow during your stay.
Local Places to Visit
Carvoeiro
Once a busy fishing village, now a pretty example of an Algarvian town built on a hill leading down to a beautiful beach. Carvoeiro has lots of lovely restaurants, bars and shops and in June it holds it now famous Black & White evening.
The whole town comes alive with music, entertainment and fireworks.
Ferragudo
Set on a hill overlooking the entrance to Portimao harbour, this pretty fishing village has one of longest sandy beaches on the Algarve. Enjoy lunch in the town square or in one of the many restaurants overlooking the water.
Silves
A short drive inland from the villa is Silves, a stunning Moorish town. Walk up to the beautiful castle, wander around on top of its walls and enjoy the views. Have a coffee in one of the little cafes overlooking the church.
Porches Pottery
Renowned for hand-painted pottery. Some of the designs are already in the villa. Watch the ladies painting; shop for a lovely souvenir, but if you want something personalised allow about 7-10 days. Stop and have coffee and cake in the little cafe.
